    Moon Tours

After 25 years frequenting the amazing African continent, Moon Tours have put this itinerary from a first-hand experience, as it is one of their very own personal favorite African adventures and we’re excited to give you the opportunity to experience Africa in such a unique way. 21-day self-drive safari; From Victoria Falls to Kafue NP in Zambia and across the border into Botswana, all these conservation areas roll into one across the two countries.

Victoria Falls, the mighty Zambezi, Chobe NP, famous Moremi Game Reserve, the incredible Okavango Delta, and the flooded desert onto the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, you will spend almost every single day on Safari. You will experience first hand what Luxury – eco-friendly and sustainable tourism means, where local people benefit directly from your visit. Touring philanthropy projects, village visits and walking into the wilds with the Kalahari bushmen who’ll share their way of life as it has been for thousands of years.

A morning game viewing activity is followed by breakfast. You will be transferred to the border for your onward transfer to Zambia. Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma is just a short drive away from the world-famous Victoria Falls. The lodge itself is an exclusive haven in the heart of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, which, in addition to the mighty roar of the Victoria Falls, also boasts a wide variety of game as well as countless opportunities for adventure. Built on two levels on a dramatic bend in the Zambezi, the main lodge is perched in giant ebony trees. Guests can relax in the swimming pool, or enjoy a drink in the elevated bar. The twelve air-conditioned tree houses are connected by wooden walkways and all enjoy superb views over the river. In addition, there are two private houses available. Each has two bedrooms, a dining area and deck with plunge pools, as well as a private chef and house staff.

Departing Sussi and Chuma through Livingstone town to Kalomo town and onto Dundumwezi Gate, the southern entrance into Kafue National Park followed by an en route game drive to Nanzhila Plains Lodge and tented camp. An easy and relaxed drive through small towns and remote villages engaging with the very friendly Zambian people. Bush tracks and few tourists makes for an interesting cultural experience. Kafue National Park offers staggering animal and bird diversity including 4 out of the Big 5 and a number of birding specials and is the only lodge in the Southern Kafue, meaning you have nearly 3000km² of pure wilderness to yourself.

260Km - Mix dirt and tarmac. Ferry crossing at Kazungula into Botswana. Easy drive.

After exiting the park we head through Simamba town and onto Kazungula crossing the border into Botswana. This is where the mighty Zambezi turns into the Chobe River and the meeting point of three countries. Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia. Passing through the quaint town of Kasane the first thing you might notice is wildlife crossing the main road through town. With almost all of Botswana being desert it is one of the most uninhabited countries in Africa with a population of only 2.26m in 2016. Deep in the heart of the Botswana wilderness lies Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero Lodge. Days at Chobe Chilwero begin with a morning game viewing activity followed by breakfast. Relax in luxurious thatched cottages, with modern freestanding baths, indoor and outdoor showers, terrace and private garden with hammock overlooking the magnificent Chobe River. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the game viewing activities on offer which include game drives in the National Park and a sundowner cruise on the Chobe River.

275Km - 4WD tracks and dirt roads. Moderately challenging, reasonably long day - Game viewing en route.

A great day driving on 4WD tracks and dirt roads through Chobe NP, Savuti Game Reserve and the border of Moremi ending on a private concession. Games reserves, National Parks and Private Concessions are all unfenced creating vast areas for wildlife to roam freely. The full day's travel takes you through some of the great wilderness areas in Africa making for nonstop game viewing and photo opportunities along the way. Mogothlo Lodge is on a privately owned concession that allows for a unique Safari experience with extra freedom allowed to explore the surrounding area. Nestled in-between a Leadwood forest, overlooking the Khwai River and beyond which joins the Moremi game reserve.

120Km - 4WD tracks, soft sand, possible water crossings, and mud. Moderately challenging, easy day – Game viewing en route.

Traveling from Mogothlo to Third Bridge Camp is a stunning drive along the edge of the Okavango Delta with superb game viewing opportunities and a good chance to see big cats and Wild Dogs. Passing through Mopani forests, flood plains, crossing makeshift wooden bridges the tracks can be soft and sandy with the odd water crossing once we pass through Moremi North Gate. Fantastic off-roading. Third Bridge camp is located on the Western side of Moremi Game Reserve along with a tributary of the Moanachira River, in one of the most game rich areas of the Moremi Game Reserve. It borders on the delta and Mboma Island where you can enjoy the heavy concentration of wildlife in the dry season. Explore the deep-water lagoons of the delta by boat with experienced guides on a game drive like no other. Due to the very diverse vegetation (riverine forest, floodplain, Mopani forests), the wildlife is spectacular; elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, lechwe, zebra, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog to name a few.

140Km - 4WD tracks, dirt roads, and tarmac. Early start, easy drive – game viewing en route. Fly Maun – Stanley's Camp on private charter.

Early start and a relatively quick drive to the town of Maun through Moremi Game reserve via the South Gate to meet our charter flight deep into the heart of the Okavango Delta. After landing on a dirt runway on one of the many islands created by the yearly flooding of the desert you'll be met by your guides for the next few days before transferring to the stunning Stanley's Camp by modified Land Cruiser. Sanctuary Stanley's is situated in a 260,000-acre private concession, thus affording guests absolute exclusivity. Guest accommodation consists of eight classic styled safari tents. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the game viewing activities. A completely unique Stanley's feature is an educational experience with a group of semi-habituated African elephants and a highly recommended activity at an additional cost. Other activities available include serene mokoro canoe excursions (subject to water levels), exclusive bush dinners, and game drives in customized, open 4 x 4 vehicles - including the rare opportunity of night drives.

After an early morning game viewing experience at Sanctuary Stanley's camp followed by breakfast, you will be transferred by 4WD to the bush airstrip with picnic lunch before flying to back to Maun and reuniting with your vehicles. The afternoon will be spent preparing your vehicles and stocking up for the next five days in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.

Roof Top camping 205Km -Approximately 5 hours / 165Km to Matsewere Gate followed by 40Km 4WD tracks - Game viewing en route

Early breakfast before heading out of Maun with our vehicles restocked and fuelled away from the flooded oasis of the Delta and into the vast remote Central Kalahari Game Reserve for two night bush camping, the second largest reserve in the world. Tarmac runs into a dirt road that runs into sandy 4WD tracks with game viewing opportunities along the way. Unique desert animals like the Gemsbok, Springbok, Meerkat, rare Brown Hyena, desert Leopard, and massive black-maned Lions live here.

90Km - 4WD tracks, easy drive - Game viewing en route

After an early morning game drive (if you like) and breakfast we'll make our way north staying in the heart of the Central Kalahari and home of the San people or Bushmen. The San live relatively undisturbed and are free to live as they have for thousands of years, one of the last remaining tribes on earth to do so. Soft sand and vegetated desert country give life to an incredible amount of wildlife on a private concession bordering the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Arriving at your final destination, an oasis in the desert you will be spending time with indigenous San people who will share the way they live and secrets of the bush. Guided driving and walking Safaris included as well as night drives are all included along with comfortable accommodation where you can freshen up after a couple of days camping in the desert. Our official last night and a special celebration to end the trip with an incredible cultural and game experience at Deception Valley Lodge.

It will have been the most amazing adventures of your life with memories and thousands of images to last a lifetime.
