The Big Adventure on 8 passenger rafts! 8-Mile Whitewater

With the most popular boat on the Snake River, expect a wild and big adventure! Most people choose this option because it’s the middle of the road among boat sizes, there is an option to paddle or not and the small boats are still guaranteed to knock your river booties off! This raft is an AIRE inflatable, self-bailing, 15’6” raft.

This is an 8 man raft. There are 6 paddling positions and 2 non-paddling positions in this raft. Mad River’s experienced guides will share the history of the area as well as information about the incredible local flora and fauna.

The Snake River Canyon is rich in geological history and your guide will point out some of the features that make this canyon unique. You may see river otters, osprey and bald eagles on your trip. A lucky few might even catch a glimpse of a mountain goat, a mule deer, an elk or even a grizzly or black bear.

People come from all over the world to experience our newly designated “Wild and Scenic” river. The Snake River in Jackson Hole has been classified as a class I-III river, meaning that you can enjoy anything from a flat water scenic float in the north to exciting whitewater rapids in the Snake River Canyon to the south.

Itinerary

All whitewater trips launch from West Table Boat Ramp in the Snake River Canyon and wind their way south toward Alpine, WY, exiting the river at Sheep Gulch Boat Ramp. Guests travel 8 river miles from start to finish. There are about 8 sets of rapids, ranging from class I to III.

Rapids include Station Creek, Double Draw, Blind Canyon, Big Kahuna, Lunchcounter, Ropes, Champagne, and Cottonwoods.

Best suited for:

Small boats are best suited for families with kiddos, adventure enthusiasts and small to medium sized groups. Mad River’s recommendation is that if guests are apprehensive about paddling or not, choose this boat size and ask to take turns paddling with others in their party.

Although the minimum age for Mad River’s whitewater trips is 6 years old, this ride is suggested for kiddos 8 years and older.

Why TOV loves Mad River Boat Trips

Mad River Boat Trips recycling in Jackson Hole The “green” company with the yellow boats…

Mad River is a “Business Leader” for Reduce Reuse Recycle in Jackson. They do their best to recycle everything that we can and we are always looking for new ways to green our business. Mad Rives uses recycled products whenever possible. Their brochures are printed on recycled paper with soy-based ink. They sell shirts made from bamboo and organic cotton and use real silverware and plates for our meals.

They compost: All their disposable cups and napkins are compostable. They use both sides of every sheet of paper. They opt for email invoices and online catalogs to reduce paper usage. They perform yearly maintenance on our vehicles so they will run efficiently and with the least amount of emissions possible.

“The RRR Business Leaders Program is thrilled to support and bring public awareness to businesses making an effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle. It’s an ongoing project that is intended to provide resources for local businesses to become more environmentally friendly while contributing to their economic success.” – RRR in Jackson Hole

The Mad River Boathouse-Running on 100% Windpower Since 2008, Mad River has been running on 100% wind power, supplied by Lower Valley Energy. “Choosing renewable power reduces the impact on our water sources, the air we breathe, wildlife, and the land around us. Also, the more customers participating in Green Power will help ensure that our communities will benefit from renewable energy sources long into the future.” – Lower Valley Energy

Using Reusable Water Bottles-Mad River fills it up… As part of the area’s One Less Bottle Campaign, Mad River issued each employee a reusable bottle to do their part in reducing the number of bottles going into landfills. Staff has taken the initiative seriously; if you’re caught using a disposable cup in the Mad River Boathouse you will receive a $5 fine for each cup you use.

“Every day in Jackson we generate nearly 5,000 single-use plastic bottles into our waste stream. Each time a person fills a reusable bottle, its one less bottle that goes to waste.” – Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling

Green Cleaning Products-Mad River clean with green… Mad River chooses green cleaning products from The Clean Environment Co. because of their limited effect on the environment. “The Clean Environment Co has been selected to provide cleaning products for Yellowstone Park, Grand Teton National Park and over 50 other National Parks.”

Mad River and Forever Earth-Taking initiative on green business practices… Mad River participates in the Forever Earth Program. “Environmental compliance is a fundamental commitment across every property of Forever Resorts. They have established Forever Earth processes to ensure all of their properties are fully compliant with regulatory obligations and local community agreements.

Forever Resorts believes that as an environmental leader they must go far beyond regulatory obligations and seek out new technologies and methodologies to lessen their burden with the environment. By establishing strong initiatives in both of these areas Forever Resorts will continue to expand and strengthen these programs in every way possible.

“Forever Resorts estimates it conservatively touches more than 20 million people every year through their domestic resort operations. As a leader in the hospitality industry, this offers a unique opportunity to extend their environmental ethic to others so visitors may learn from their experiences and return home with a new knowledge of environmental responsibility.” – Forever Earth

Cleaning up the Snake River Mad River takes out the trash… Every spring, the Mad River staff participates in the Snake River Clean Up. Guides maneuver rafts over Big Kahuna and Lunchcounter rapids in search of trash and debris (the river is no place for a car transmission).

Mad River is proud to help organize such an event and with the majority of Jackson’s Rafting and Fishing outfitters participating in the day-long river clean up, community commitment for a clean river environment is clear. Mad River takes pride in the unique resource we have here and we make every effort to keep it pristine.
