Epik Adventure Guides

DETAILS

This trip is undoubtedly one of the best trekking programs in the northern Andes, filled with the perfect combination of nature and culture. During this adventure, we will walk through paths of forests and moors that lead to Andean communities, accessible only by foot or horse. Pinan Lake will be the highlight of this incredible experience while we walk through the surrounding hills. If we are lucky enough, we might even catch a glimpse of the bear species that inhabit these mountains.

Itinerary

List View

Transfer from the airport to Inraki lodge.
After an early breakfast, we’ll set off to the valley of Intag, were the small town of Aguamirla is found. Here we will start our walk towards the mountains. After packing our bags, we will head to Pitura River and start ascending towards the community of Guananin, where we will set up camp. On this day, our walk will not be very long, although we will experience a challenging change of altitude that will surely test our legs. People in Guananin are very friendly and we are most likely to find curious and playful children who will show interest as to keep us company while we set up camp. As part of our communitarian tourism program, we will purchase local produce such as potatoes, yams, lima beans and corn for our dinner. In this way, we are not only passers-by, but we also support and contribute to local economies. B/L/D
After a hearty breakfast, we will continue our journey towards the valley of the Pitura River. This is a beautiful valley, where the river twists and turns through breathtaking fields filled with cows and horses. We will walk through ancestral paths, which people still use to connect from one community to another. One of these paths will lead us to the small community of Pinan, a quaint village that looks like something straight out of the Lord of the Rings. The community of Pinan has a small shelter in which we will comfortably spend the night. B/L/D
Today we'll head to the beautiful Lagoon of Pinan. From the community in which we spent the night, we will walk for about an hour until we get to a lookout point where we'll be able to see the lovely landscape with its surrounding mountains. If we feel like it, we can also take a walk around the lake, which takes about four hours before heading back to the community. B/L/D Optional: Camping on the shores of the lake.
On our last day in the mountains, we will return from the community of Pinan to the community of Aguamirla. This will be a longer but brisker walk since most of it is downhill. On this day, it will require about six hours to get to our destination. At night, we will arrive at the Inraki Lodge, where delicious dinner will be waiting for us. B/L/D
We will take you to the airport to catch your flight back home.
