Arrive at your lodge and spend the evening exploring the neighborhoods of Patan, home to the spectacular Durbar Square. This area contains a beautiful collection of temples, statues, palaces, and opportunities to buy souvenirs and local crafts. Catch up on some much needed sleep and venture out for some dinner on your own. Peak Altitude: 4,593 ft (1400 m)
Spend the day exploring the Kathmandu Valley. Shake the jetlag with a visit to Swayambhunath, the “Monkey Temple.” Take in the views of the city from atop one of the most important Buddhist stupas in Nepal. In the afternoon you will be driven to Ramechhap (3-4 hrs) where you will stay for the night. Typically, flights leave from Kathmandu to Lukla, but all domestic flights have been diverted to Ramechhap while the KTM airport runway is under construction. Peak Altitude: 4,593 ft (1400 m)
Fly from Ramechhap to Lukla (30 min). From Lukla, walk to the village of Phakding. Pass by yaks as you trace the banks of the Dudh-Koshi River. Get your first taste of Himalayan life upon arrival in Phakding. Total Hiking: approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) / 3-4 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 8,563 ft (2610 m)
Begin the difficult hike up to Namche Bazaar and enjoy the beauty of the Everest region. Pass by waterfalls and through small mountain villages before getting some much deserved rest. Total Hiking: approximately 7.5 miles (12 km) / 5-6 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 11,286 ft (3440 m)
Spend a day in Namche to acclimatize to the altitude and rest before the next ascent. Spend your day hiking to Everest View Point, an optional 2 hour hike with rewarding views. Peak Altitude: 11,286 ft (3440 m)
Begin your ascent from Namche, hiking high above the edges of the village. Descend to the village of Khumjung at the base of the sacred mountain Khumbilia. Khumjung boasts inscribed stone walls and chortens (Buddhist stupas). Khumbu’s only secondary school, founded by Sir Edmund Hillary, is also in this village. Take a short hike up to the Khumjung monastery. Total Hiking: approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) / 4 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 13,025 ft (3970 m)
This segment includes the famous descent to the Dudh-Koshi River and the equally famous ascent along the rhododendron forests to Tengboche. Soak in views of Everest and Ama Dablam. Upon arrival in Tengboche, visit the local monastery and have a warm cup of local tea. Total Hiking: approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) / 4 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 12,664 ft (3860 m)
Continue your hike to Dengboche as you take in the mountain views along the trail. Total Hiking: approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) / 4 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 14,468 ft (4410 m)
Rest and acclimatize to the altitude in Dengboche. Spend the day hiking around nearby villages or resting on the teahouse terrace with Ama Dablam soaring directly overhead. Peak Altitude: 14,468 ft (4410 m)
Continue your ascent towards Everest as you pass under towering mountains. Reach Lobuche nestled high in the Himalaya, a major trekking stop along the trail to base camp. Total Hiking: approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) / 5 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 16,207 ft (4940 m)
Today is the big day! Follow the trail along the western side of the Khumbu Valley and the views of Mount Pumori - “Everest’s daughter” - will accompany you. After a brief descent, reach Gorak Shep and take a short break. Afterward, hike an arduous four hours along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier to reach Everest Base Camp at 17,598 ft! Head back to Gorak Shep for some much deserved rest. Total Hiking: approximately 9 miles (14.5 km) / 8 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 17,598 ft (5364 m)
Wake before sunrise and begin the ascent to the top of Kala Patthar (18,192 ft), which takes about 2 hours. The trail is made up of a series of steep switchbacks that eventually leads to the highest point of the summit. Enjoy the sunrise and stunning views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Pumari and Mt. Nuptse. Head back to the hotel for breakfast and then descend to Pheriche. Total Hiking: approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) / 5-7 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 18,192 ft (5545 m)
Continue your descent into the Khumbu valley and return to the village of Tengboche. Total Hiking: approximately 8.5 miles (13.7 km) / 6-8 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 12,644 ft (3860 m)
Head back to Namche Bazaar with a new perspective now that you've conquered Everest Base Camp! Total Hiking: approximately 9 miles (14.5 km) / 6 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 11,286 ft (3440 m)
Continue your descent from Namche to Phakding. Total Hiking: approximately 11 miles (17.7 km) / 6 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 8,563 ft (2610 m)
Take this three hour hike at a leisurely pace while marveling at the scenery around you. Total Hiking: approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 km) / 3 hours trekking Peak Altitude: 9,383 ft (2860 m)
Grab a predawn breakfast before hopping on an early flight back to Ramechhap (30 minutes). Drive 3-4 hours back to your lodge in Kathmandu and enjoy a warm shower. Peak Altitude: 4,593 ft (1400 m)
Spend the day relaxing and exploring Kathmandu on your own during the day. Join your fellow expedition members for a farewell dinner and lots of toasting in the evening. Peak Altitude: 4,593 ft (1400 m)
