DETAILS
During this winter adventure, we will track wild animals with a focus on wolves and lynx. We travel to different hotspots for animal activity by van and venture out on foot or cross country skis/snowshoes depending on the snow conditions. You won’t need any previous experience in skiing or snowshoeing. As we spend time out in the field learning the arts of tracking wildlife and gather data to be analyzed there is a possibility to observe animals such as moose, otter, beaver, roe deer, mountain hare, even wolf and lynx. Our first night will be spent at Korså Herrgård - a historical estate built to support the local iron industry during 1840’s. A truly genuine place with nature right at your doorstep ready for you to explore. We will then stay three nights at Färna Herrgård - a nice countryside hotel strategically located in a forested region. This is a big favorite among our guests! The forests that we will visit is home to some of Sweden’s densest populations of large mammals including wolves and lynx. Our guides have vast knowledge and experience of all animals in these forests, how to track and observe them respectfully without disturbing. Our adventure begins in Dalarna and during our first excursion, we aim to track any wildlife that we come across. We move on foot or with skis or snowshoes in search for tracks and signs in the snow. The next day we will be heading a bit south in search for otters and beavers in Dalälven river in Färnebofjärden National Park. During winter when most of the river is frozen we have a good chance to see them at this place where the river turns into a rapid. We continue our journey by going further south to one of Sweden’s best lynx habitat. Here we will spend the day out in the field together with a ranger to learn about lynx. We also aim to track and collect field data from these animals. On day four we will move into wolf territory and this day will be all about wolves. Together with the ranger, we head out in search of tracks and signs of the wolf as well as collecting field data. We will end this day by lighting a campfire in the heart of the wolf territory where we have a chance to hear wolves howl.
