Intense Whitewater Rafting on the Tons River

    In May 2005, Aquaterra Adventures opened the entire Tons river, 19 years after it was run in 1986. They continue to be the only outfitter running regular descents on this section, continuing to set the industry benchmark in running all of India's wild raftable rivers. On the Middle Tons between Lunagad and Tiuni, the river drops at an average rate of 32 feet per kilometre. This includes a drop of 78 feet per km over the last three and a half km before Tiuni. Amazing scenery and world-class whitewater make this a premier expedition for the whitewater paddler. We run several rapids ranging from Class III to Class IV+/V, with whitewater sections separated by maybe a hundred yards or less of flat water. It aims to propagate the sheer adrenaline and magic of taking on 40 km of quality whitewater from Gyunhatti till Tiuni, in what could possibly be one of the finest whitewater experiences possible in the world today.


    From Delhi we'll board overnight train to Dehradun at 11:55pm.

    Arriving at 5:30am, we'll drive to Mussoorie for breakfast. Transfer to Camp Lunagad to arrive by tea time. Dinner and overnight Camp.

    Rafting on the Tons from Mori-Khunigad, we'll get familiarized with paddling commands and paddling strokes. Take a short walk to the Lunagad pool, or relax at Camp. Campfire dinner and overnight at camp.

    We'll leave Camp to begin 2 days of exhilarating river rafting, dedicated to the 21 km section from Mori till Tiuni, where the Pabbar River meets the Tons. This is the more continuous part of our expedition. Days are mixed with running several continuous Class 4 rapids in a day and camping by lunch on beautiful alpine meadows above the river, taking walks into the forest and breathing rhododendron-scented air. It's a great mix of high excitement rafting and soothing camping in very scenic surroundings. Drive back to camp to shower, relax and party.

    Drive to Sandhra village and trek 3 hours to Mora village. Packed lunch en route. Return to Camp by early afternoon, relax at camp in the evening and stay overnight.

    After brunch, drive to Dehradun to board train no. 2018 Dehradun Shatabdi from Dehradun to Delhi.
