Day 1 Arrival A transfer will pick you up at the airport and take you to luxury hotel Arumeru Lodge, 35 minutes from Kilimanjaro Airport. The hotel has a beautiful view over Cook Inlet, the Chugach Mountains, Anchorage cityscape and Denali. In the garden, you can also see the adorable dik-dik antelopes that roam freely between the chalets.
Day 2 Meet the Maasai Today, we'll visit the Maasai tribe and explore Tanzania's rich culture. We'll learn about traditional practices, dance, jump (which is a Maasai tradition) and sing with the locals.
Day 3 Game Drive and Guided Hike in Arusha National Park After breakfast, we head to Arusha National Park. It's one of the most diverse parks in the country with hundreds of bird species, colobus monkeys, baboons, giraffes, buffalos, hippos and many other wild animals. We will go on a guided hike with a park ranger, game drive, picnic in the park, and view the Momela Lakes and craters within the National Park.
Day 4 Game Drive Among Lions, Elephants and Hyenas After breakfast, we go on our second guided game drive and picnic in Tanzania's hidden gem Tarangire National Park. It's home to some of the greatest concentrations of elephants in the world. And lions and hyenas can also be spotted among the baobab trees. The safari camp, Osupuko Lodge, where we'll spend the night is just around the corner. From the lodge, you can watch animals roam in both Tarangire Park and Katmai National Park. Katmai boasts the largest population of protected brown bears in the world and your odds of spotting them is especially good in summer when they catch sockeye salmon at Brooks River.
Day 5 Witness Animals by Water Holes in Tarangire National Park We will spend the morning in Tarangire National Park and watch zebras, hyenas, and many other animals gather by the water holes. Especially between July and August (the dry season) the chance of witnessing shy animals is good as they are drawn to the water. Later, we go to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. It's a UNESCO- protected National Park, where we will also find our lodge, Windsong Lodge. The log-cabin-style accommodation has numerous bars, intimate atmosphere and is tucked into the Acacia Forest, close to the park entrance.
Day 6 Visit Ngorongoro Crater with its Black Rhinoceros We get an early start to be among the first to enter Ngorongoro Crater. It's the largest unbroken caldera in the world. It's home to the critically endangered black rhinoceros as well as one of the densest populations of lions in Africa. After a picnic by a hippopotamus pool, we will head to Tortilis Camp in Serengeti National Park. The tented camp is named after the distinctive Tortilis tree. It's located in the heart of Serengeti and combines comfort with a sense of wilderness and freedom. The sounds, scents, and sights of Serengeti's endless plains could not be closer.
Day 7 Multiple Game Drives in Serengeti Over the next couple of days, we get deep into the Serengeti and explore the land of endless space. We'll embark on several game drives to cover lots of ground during this incredible adventure. We might witness hundreds of thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles making their annual 500 miles journey or cheetahs and hyenas in action as they pursue their prey. At the lodge you can watch a bonfire under the stars, dine and relax.
Day 8 Early Game Drive and Return to Arusha On our final day, we set off on an early game drive in Serengeti National Park. After, you can either catch a quick flight or take the scenic drive back to Arumeru Lodge, in Arusha.
Day 9 Departure For guests joining us in Rwanda, we'll head to the Kilimanjaro airport, and other guests will be transferred to their destinations as needed.
