Brunei is a small country on the island of Borneo, divided into two distinct sections. It’s entirely surrounded by Malaysia and sits on the South China Sea. It is easily accessible by plane, with many direct flights from neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Brunei is best-known for stunning beaches and protected rain forests and reserves.

This is an all-in-one amazing package for those who want to dive, explore and experience what it feels like to live like a Bruneian!

Day 1: Welcome to Brunei

Pickup from airport (tentative to customer’s flight). Transport to Poni Homestay / Hotel ($50/Night add on; 3-Star Hotel).

Free Time – Options to choose from: City Tour, Food Tour (Night Market), Round Bandar with trishaw, Cycle along Ripas bridge – not included in the tour package and depends on guest’s arrival time.

Diving Season

Diving is available all year around in Brunei with better visibility and calm sea months between March to October and wet season between November to February; the water visibility during wet season can be slightly lower due to the rain and the seas won’t be as calm compared to the dive season.

Water Conditions

Average sea temperature is around 30°C and it can dip down to 25°C some times. Visibility ranges between 5m to 30m. We reserve the right to change the itinerary due to weather, safety standards, or the customer’s abilities.

Dive Safety Regulations

Due to safety regulations, all divers require between 18 to 24 hours off-gas period on land prior to flight departure. This means, if the diver finishes his/her dive at 03.00pm, he/she can only fly 18 hours later at 10:00am next day.

Conservation Request

Guests are expected to show respect for the natural environment by refraining from destruction or removal of flora, fauna or other components, unless otherwise permitted, and with the knowledge of the guides in attendance. Guests are also expected to strictly adhere to safety regulations and directions from the guides at all times during the duration of the tour.

Meals

Meals are prepared in local style and consist of chicken, fish & assorted vegetables, unless otherwise pre-requested and agreed upon between operator and guest. Guests observing a vegetarian regime, or other dietary preferences are to make their preferences known at time of booking in order for suitable meals to be prepared, to the best effort of the operator

Liability of Operator

The operator and its affiliates exclude any liability for any discomfort, death or injury occurring within our premises or on tours conducted resulting from guest’s own negligence or from circumstances, natural or otherwise, beyond reasonable foresight of the operator.

About Poni Divers

Poni Divers is a local scuba diving club in Brunei with 5 locations around town; the main operations centre is at Serasa beach, administrative office is at Muara Town, marine workshop and a homestay is near Serasa Beach, and there is also a branch in Bali, Indonesia.

Offering a wide range of PADI & IANTD courses including scuba gear for rental and retail, nitrox, trimix, technical diving, marine tours, watersports, team-building activities, corporate getaways, beach parties, and group events, Poni Divers is the one-stop solution for any fun related to the water! The main operations centre is also home to Poni Dive Club with over 500 local members and often organises dive travel to many exotic overseas destinations.

Poni Dive Club aims to develop a strong local community of divers. Poni Divers, with the help of the club members, also runs various youth projects with schools to increase awareness of local marine conservation issues. With the rich wealth of experience of its management, Poni Divers often consult on dive supply and training on a project basis with corporate and government agencies.

Poni Divers often provides information for individuals seeking dive-related careers like commercial diving, public safety diving, and underwater environmental research. They also seek to establish an active local underwater photography community through various UW photography workshops, outings and seminars. We also support local community groups by participating in various local outreach activities.

Safety

In Poni Divers, safety is a priority in all aspects of their activities. All boats are equipped with oxygen kits, first aid kits, life jackets and emergency boat equipment and carry first party insurance. First aid kits and safety & rescue equipment can be found all around their beachside facility.

All boat captains and boat crew have completed BSP E-Kawal HSE and Safety course and certified and all their staff is rescue and CPR trained to handle any medical or dive emergencies. To increase support and safety for the local divers, they also run a 24-hour service hotline for advice and assistance on local diver-related medical emergencies. All their boats are BSP boat marine standard compliant and follow international safety standards and also local marine boat guidelines.

With the recent addition of VHF radios to their operations centre, boats, and portable underwater radios with their dive guides, they are proud to state that they comply with international safety standards and more.

Sustainability Projects

Coral Propagation Program: Poni Divers is proud to have hosted the first coral propagation program in Brunei in partnership with SCOT (Society for Community Outreach & Training) with corporate sponsorship from HSBC for the pilot program back in 2013. We are keen to continue developing our coral propagation program with support from local institutions and corporate sponsors.

Ghostnet Fishing Campaigns: Ghostnets are abandoned fishing nets that continue to catch fish for years leading to much waste. This is not an uncommon issue here in Brunei. At Poni Divers, they are looking at how to tackle this issue from the private sector and have currently been hosting regular ghost net cleanups and also run a hotline for any fishermen who require assistance to recover their fishing nets.
