Unexplored Ladakh

DETAILS

The Sham valley is also fondly known as the apricot valley of Ladakh as the majority of them grow in this part of the region and also houses one of the easier trails in the form of Sham trials that is primarily used for trekking. It is also perfect to experience mountain biking as they are spread on a much easier line. It is a beginners trail with it being graded on as a blue line. While Markha valley is one of the most alluring places in the region it is also one the largest valleys in Ladakh. The valley is accessible only by trails that remain shut from the rest of the world during the winters and is also home to the most popular trekking routes around.

The trail runs through numerous tiny hamlet villages that are mostly spread on a lush setting with streams flowing at every turn. The trails are ideally placed to enjoy mountain biking graded with a red line, as there are a few technical sections that one will have to endure. This is purely a singletrack experience with more than 30 km of sheer downhill to ride on especially in the initial part of this trip. Keep in mind that there is a huge mountain pass that you will have to conquer, this part of the trip could prove as one of the most challenging section that you will have to endure. But, remember you have to go up if you are looking to enjoy the downhill part of it as well.

Welcome to Ladakh. we will pick you up from Kushok Bakula Rinpoche airport, from where you will be transferred to your hotel at Leh. Today, we strongly recommend you staying indoors and resting as much as possible. This is mainly for your body to acclimatize with the altitude and we also advise you to consume as much water as you can.
Today, after a hearty breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel along with the bikes. You will be driven to the northernmost part of the Leh, from where we will ride down on our bikes through narrow lanes that form the backbone of the town. This is a short ride, with trials mainly spread on narrow concrete lanes that seep through Leh. It is a fun ride that will open a different perception of the place. After the descent, that will lead us directly towards the main part of the town, where we will stop at one the restaurant for our lunch.
Next morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to the village of Liker, along with your bikes. You will be drop at Changtse La Pass (3630m). This is where our Singletrack experience will start. Form the pass the trails are spread on a much gradual path flowing all the way toward the village of Yanhangthang. It is a short ride till the village, which would take you about not more than 10 minutes. After lunch and much-needed rest, we can explore the area on our bike as there numerous trails that surround the village.
Today, we will continue on towards the next village of Hemis- Sukpachan. Here, there is a pass called Tsermanchan La (3750m) from where a flow trail starts and will lead us directly towards Hemis- Sukpachen. This is again a short ride. On reaching there after your lunch and rest we will once again head out with with our bikes and explore the nearby lines in the village.
Today is one of the most challenging parts of this trail. From the village, the next pass lies after a sloppy trail that is fun and flowy for about a km long stretch. Then the daunting part of this trip will soon fall in the form of Metabk la pass (3750m). After the climb, this part of the trail is the best one spread on the valley leading you all the way to the village of Timisgang via Ang.
Today, we will visit the village monastery and then, you will be transferred back to town.
Today commences the second leg of your trip. From your hotel in Leh, you will be transferred towards Chokdo. The major part of the day will be spent climbing up Komgmaro la Pass (5200m). Once we have conquered the uphill struggle of the pass, it is then smooth sailing on your bike henceforth leading you all the way towards Nimaling village. A beautiful open landscape with a spectacular view of KangYatse peaks on the right is what will be awaiting you on your arrival. The trails here are little technical in nature, especially while descending from the pass, which will test your mountain biking skills. It is a steep descent that eventually transforms into a more gradual path. Our day will end in the village.
Today, after breakfast, we will continue on towards the village of Markha on our bikes, which is the largest one in the entire valley hence the name of it. The trails here are spread on a more moderate level with few hamlets that fall along the way. On reaching Markha, there will be enough time in our hands to explore new lines and trial within the vicinity of the village in the evening.
The ride today, will be relatively easier yet a fun one until we reach another small pass that will lead us directly towards the village of Chilling after crossing the Zanskar river. The trail from the pass is fast and flowing so keep in mind the handling of your brakes.
From Chilling the next village lies at about 28 km, which we will cover it riding by the Zanskar river. We will raft our way till the village of Nimoo, where lunch will be served and transferred back to Leh.
Today, you can spend your day just relaxing or even indulge in some personal shopping and later in the evening we could rendezvous at one of the restaurants in town for a celebratory dinner.
Depending on the timings of your flight, your guide will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you back to the airport bidding goodbye and safe journey.
