DETAILS

The contrasting landscapes of Ethiopia and its historic rock churches are best explored on foot. You will reach parts of the country where only a few tourists are present and you will experience the unique hospitality of the people. From the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Axum, this journey leads to hidden churches in the red sandstone mountains in Gheralta. In contrast, the almost hostile landscapes of the Danakil Desert, where you can get close to the bubbling Sulphur volcano Dallol - a cinder cone volcano in the Danakil Depression - and look into the endless expanse of the Karum Salt Lake. The highlight here is a desert trekking through the Saba Canyon.
