South Africa is a “shark hotspot” with over 100 species of shark present in our waters. Join Shark Explorers on the shark expedition of a lifetime to dive, interact, film and photograph White Sharks, Blue Sharks, Mako Sharks, Sevengill Sharks, Spotted Gully Sharks, Puffadder Catsharks, Dark Shy Sharks, Pajama Sharks, Leopard Cat Sharks, Cape Fur Seals, and much more.
This 10 Night/11 Day expedition package also includes a full day tour to view the BIG 5 on land, making this a truly African experience! Also included are three half day sightseeing tours to discover the beauty of the Western Cape. On these tours we plan to show you the “Cape of Good Hope” which is the most South Western tip of the African continent, finish this tour off with the famous “Boulders Beach” which is home to the African penguins. Other sightseeing attractions on this expedition are Table Mountain , Robben Island or a trip to some of the best wine farms in the world.
The Shark action will consist of two trips to Seal Island (False Bay) to meet the Great White Shark face to face and learn about their behaviours and movements around our coastline. Three inshore dive trips (two dives per trip) amongst the kelp forests in search of Broadnose Sevengill Sharks, Spotted Gully Sharks, Puffadder Catsharks, Dark Shy Sharks, Leopard Cat Sharks, Pajama Sharks and Cape Fur Seals.
Two offshore trips in search of Blue Sharks, Mako Sharks, Giant Yellowfin Tuna and Longfin Tuna and Pilot whales. The three half day land based tours are flexible to the desire of the group and the advice from the tour guide. The options are Cape Point Nature Reserve, the Penguin colony at Boulders Beach, Table Mountain, Robben Island, Winelands and many more.
Day 1: Arrive in South Africa
You will be picked up from the airport between 12h00-14h00 (unless otherwise arranged) and transferred to the Shark Explorers dive shop before being dropped off at the Quayside hotel.
Day 2: Inshore Dive - Cape Point - Boulders Beach
Early breakfast at the hotel, and then we will meet up at 8h30am for an inshore dive trip that will include two dives. Afterwards, we will return to the hotel for lunch, before starting a guided land tour to Cape Point at 13h30. In the evening around 17h30, we will visit Boulders beach penguin colony. Once we’ve had some time with the penguins, we will head back to the hotel. Dinner will be at a local restaurant.
Day 3: Seal Island
Early breakfast at the hotel after which we will meet at the pier and head off to Seal island to see white sharks. We will return to port around 12h30 and spend the afternoon at own leisure.
Day 4: Blue and Mako Shark Dive
After a 7am breakfast, we will meet on the pier and head offshore for a Blue and Mako shark dive. We will return at around 16h00 and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 5: Inshore Dive - Table Mountain
7am breakfast at the hotel, and then we will meet for an inshore dive trip consisting of two dives. Afterwards we will return to the hotel for lunch before leaving on a guided tour to Table Mountain. We’ll have dinner around 7pm at the V&A Waterfront.
Day 6: Seal Island
We’ll meet at the pier after an early breakfast and head to Seal island again to see more White sharks. After we return at 12h30, the afternoon can be spent at leisure.
Day 7: Blue and Mako Sharks Dive
We will get breakfast to go, and meet at the pier at 7h30 to head offshore to dive with Blue and Mako sharks. After we return at about 16h00, the evening can be spent at leisure.
Day 8: Game Drive
At 6am we will meet our guide and driver and head to the game reserve. We’ll have breakfast once we arrive and then head out on a game drive. We’ll have a buffet lunch at the reserve and head back to the hotel around 14h30. The rest of the day will be spend at leisure.
Day 9: Inshore Dive
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll meet at the pier by 8h30 for two inshore trips. We will return to the hotel by 12h30 and have lunch with the Shark Explorers team. The rest of the day can be spent at leisure.
Day 10: Robben Island - Wine Tour
After an early breakfast we will head to either Robben Island, or on a wine tour by 9am. Returning by 14h30, we can relax before meeting at the yacht club for a shark presentation and farewell Braai (BBQ) at 17h00.
Day 11: Departure
Airport drop offs will be between 12h00-14h00 (unless otherwise arranged).
Please note: This itinerary is a rough idea of what to expect, but in the end the weather will determine the various scheduled activities. Booking an expedition in this manner gives you (and us) the flexibility to arrange the dive activities around the most suited ocean and weather conditions.
