The region's border runs along the chain of the country's large reservoirs - the majestic Balkhash, pearl Alakol and healing Zhalanashkol, then it extends along with the mountain ranges of Dzungarian Alatau and Northern Tien Shan, covering from the South the massifs of the Zailiysky and Kungei Alatau.
