Quito is one of Latin America’s most compelling cities, known as “the face of God.” Guarded by the Ring of Fire and the Andes mountain range, with its protectors: the Rucu Pichincha, Guagua Pichincha, Antisana, Cayambe, Cotopaxi, Pululahua, Atacazo, Ilaló, and Sincholagua volcanoes. This gives it a spectacular natural landscape; no matter where you look, you’ll find one of these sleeping giants. Ecuador’s capital combines modern and colonial architecture and offers a fascinating setting for visitors. In addition to being the country’s political center, it is also its cultural capital thanks to its churches, museums, festivals, and nightlife.
Our offices are located in the central part of the city, surrounding a commercial area full of shopping malls, bars, restaurants, and shops for all tastes. Upon arrival at the office, we’ll help you with the necessary documentation and provide you with the selected motorcycle equipment, as well as your chosen motorcycle for the tour.
After this brief but essential briefing, you’ll be ready to take control of your route with complete confidence. We want every curve and every kilometer traveled to make you feel proud of your skill and every achievement on this two-wheeled adventure. Quito is located 2,800 meters (9,000 feet) above sea level. A relatively short but fun-filled route.
We arrived at the hotel early to enjoy its attractions, especially the only primary forest of polylepis and frailejones in the world. Legend has it that in the El Ángel moors lived the mischievous and wise Curupí, guardian of the Polylepis forest, and nearby lived Ishuaquinua, a proud and beautiful young woman who forgot traditions and respect for nature. When Curupí asked her for a symbolic test: to take the eyes and hearts, she had three full moons to do it so that her people would not suffer. Where Curupí, through a spell, transformed her into a Polylepis tree. Before completing his transformation, Ishuaquinua embraced Curupí, and he too became a tree, intertwining their branches and roots forever, symbolizing eternal love or eternal punishment for not respecting harmony with nature. Therefore, today, visitors to the Polylepis Forest can observe this natural phenomenon: two intertwined trees, representing the union of Ishuaquinua and Curupí, a reminder of the importance of respect and harmony with the natural environment.
In this area, we can observe a wide variety of fauna native to this climate, such as the Andean condor, a symbol of the country of a thousand faces, so important that it is part of our flag as a symbol of our people’s identity. We can also find pumas, white-tailed deer, and more. After a day full of adventures and an epic motorcycle ride, we will stay in one of the best eco-hotels in the country. Enjoy the hotel’s amenities for your comfort and relaxation: sauna, Turkish bath, whirlpool, cold-water baths, polar pool, and more.
At Polylepis Lodge, you can participate in various activities, such as visiting the museums located within the lodge, horseback riding, cycling, visits to nearby reservoirs and dams, and excursions (for example, to Laguna El Voladero and the Geovanny Calle Dam) to observe the landscapes, fauna, and flora. You can also enjoy the “Sky Swing” (the highest swing in Ecuador, approximately 4,000 meters above sea level). It’s an unforgettable experience.
