DETAILS

Cotopaxi National Park is a large, forested area in Ecuador spanning parts of Cotopaxi, Pichincha and Napo provinces. It's known for the active, snow-capped Cotopaxi volcano and vast Limpiopungo Lake. Wildlife includes hawks, condors and weasels. In the east, mudflows and stones from past eruptions dot Valle Encantado (Enchanted Valley). Trails weave through pine trees in nearby El Boliche National Recreation Area. When it comes to mammals, rabbits, white-tailed deer, gazelles, wolves, pumas, bears, foxes and weasels are often found in the park. A large extension of the park is a high treeless plateau, and hosts gentians, lycopods, pads, valerianas and chuquirahuas. The big day of climbing the Cotopaxi Volcano begins shortly after midnight on day 6 after the acclimatization program of the past few days and starts from the refuge at 4800m. 6-7 hours will be needed to get to the main summit of the World famous Cotopaxi (5897m). A complete alpine glacier hike, surrounded by beautiful mountains and the lights of the capital in the background will amaze you. The goal of ascension is to reach the summit when the sun rises to enjoy the magnificent colors and views.
