You will depart early in the morning from Gondar to Debark. In Debark, you will arrange your visit with the park office, where you will receive a scout and a guide. Then, drive to Sankaber. You can drive to the campsite or have the car drop you off at Simien Lodge for a 4-hour walk. Alternatively, you can choose to keep driving further and be dropped off 2 hours before reaching the campsite. The park hike will take you through beautiful landscapes and offer endless mountain ridges from different angles. You are likely to see common mammals in this area, including gelada baboons, bushbucks, clip springers (small antelopes), and, rarely, leopards under the cliffs. Additionally, you can observe some common birds and animals. Sankaber will be your first campsite on the trip, located at 3250 meters above sea level.
